LITTLE ATLAS IS SIGNED TO PROGROCK RECORDS AND RELEASES THE ALBUM “SURFACE SERENE” Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 2 January 2003 -- Little Atlas, a Miami-based, original progressive rock band has been signed to Progrock Records of Southern California. Their style is difficult to categorize using current bands as a point of reference; however, the band has been compared to Yes, Kansas, and early Genesis. Not progressive metal, not neo-prog, Little Atlas has really carved out its own unique sound amid the progressive rock landscape, creating compositions that range from haunting and dark, to frolicking and frenetic. Little Atlas is a quintet known around South Florida for their unique sound, powerful songwriting, and strong musicianship. The band is comprised of Steve Katsikas (vocals, keyboards), Rik Bigai (bass), Diego Pocovi (drums and percussion), Roy Strattman (guitars), and Joanna Katsikas (backing vocals). "When ProgRock Records approached us about signing us to their new label, we were both excited and, to be honest, a bit nervous”, said Steve Katsikas, keyboardist/vocalist for the band. “We wondered if signing on with them would lead to pressure to change our sound or our need for musical independence. We were blown away by their professionalism and their explicit dedication to our goals. Rather than ask us to change and fit some preconceived idea, they asked 'how can we help you realize your potential?' That was the selling point for us. Progrock Records is, first and foremost, a label made up of true music fans. “ "Signing to ProgRock Records was the best musical decision I have ever made”, continued Katsikas. “Thanks to them, people from all over the world have heard Little Atlas. They have helped create a buzz for us beyond anything we were able to do on our own. Jerry George and Shawn Gordon (A&R Director and President, respectively) from ProgRock Records jumped at the chance to sign Little Atlas as one of their first acts on the new label. “Little Atlas was a real coup for us, we stumbled upon them just as we were deciding to do ProgRock Records, and their music actually helped us decide to do the label”, said Jerry George, A&R director for the upstart label. “Great group, great music and, now, great friends...we are really happy to have found them”, said Shawn Gordon, President of ProgRrock Records. Surface Serene is the ProgRock Records debut release from Little Atlas.
