CHAIN IS SIGNED TO PROGROCK RECORDS AND RELEASE “RECONSTRUCT” Rancho Santa Margarita, CA – 7 February 2003 -- The story of Chain is not your average "formed-a-band-recorded-an-album" story. Chain was formed in 1994 by beyboardist Stephan Kernbach. Drummer Thorsten Hannig and bassist Christian Becker were 15 years old back then and naturally you would assume they wouldn't be ready to play progressive rock, but these kids could play. Henning Pauly was the fourth member, on guitar. The band rehearsed for a year and wrote a lot of material, but could never find a vocalist, so they split up. The only proof of their existence was a tape recorded during a rehearsal. Years passed and Henning moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music where he studied arranging and music synthesis, writing big band music, pop, rock, ambient etc. After his studies he moved to Los Angeles and started producing a variety of artists. One day he found the Chain tape and listened he couldn't believe that after all these years he knew every single note and that the themes really worked, so he decided to produce an album that should have been produced 8 years earlier. He spent most of 2002 working on "RECONSTRUCT". In December he found the missing link in the chain, Matt Cash, an amazing vocalist who adds a flavour to the music which is somewhat unusual for progressive rock. Henning discovered after years of writing and arranging that he forgot where his true passion lies: progressive rock - heavy guitars, driving rhythms, complex arrangements, great vocal harmonies, epic story. “Chain discovered ProgRock Records more than ProgRock Records discovered Chain, and thank GOD they did, I was hooked in the first 30 seconds.”, said Shawn Gordon, President of ProgRock Records. “Shawn sent me over the new Chain for our radio station ProgRock.com, but wouldn’t tell me anything about them, he wanted to make sure his opinion didn’t color my reaction. So I got the album, and all I can say is WOW, this was some of the best new music I’d heard in a while.” Said Jerry George, A&R Director for ProgRock Records. The sound of Chain is somewhere between progrock and progressive metal with a strong emphasis on themes and vocal lines. The first album by Chain is called RECONSTRUCT, and is a concept album spanning the complete history of evolutionary time. It contains 10 songs (2 of which are instrumentals) weaved together by seven "Earthscapes", connecting pieces which sometimes sound more like ambient music or a filmscore. The album will be available at the end of March 2003. What does the future hold for this amazing band? “The one thing we can say about Chain is that we are alive and kickin'....working on our second album called ‘chain.exe’ which we expect to release around July 2003. This new album will feature the 30 minute epic ‘Cities’.” Said Henning Pauly, guitarist and mastermind behind Chain. According to Henning “Getting signed to ProgRock Records is one of the more exciting milestones for me, other than graduating Berklee. I’m really excited about how they are working with the artists, and some of the projects that are going to come in the future, not the least of which is our very recent involvement in the upcoming Saga tribute album where we recorded a version of ‘Hot to Cold’, which you can hear at ProgRock.com.” About ProgRock Records ProgRock Records is a division of www.thekompany.com, a California-based software company with developer teams in North America and Europe, and a sister company of ProgRock.com, the first name in progressive rock on the Internet. theKompany.com's products are marketed both online and through B&M channels such as Microcenter and Fry’s Electronics.
